How Breathe Right® Nasal Strips Work
Find out how to apply—and remove—the nasal strips.
They seem simple, but Breathe Right® nasal strips have unique engineering that make them an effective tool for managing nighttime congestion and improving sleep.
The nasal strips are made of flexible, spring-like bands that fit right above the flare of the nostrils. The underside is 3M adhesive so that once positioned on the nose, they stay there. As the bands attempt to straighten back to their original shape, they lift the sides of the nose and open the nasal passages.
This lifting action helps open inflamed sinus passages and makes it easier to breathe. The nasal strips provide instant relief for congestion due to colds, allergies, or a deviated septum and reduce snoring caused by nighttime nasal congestion.
How to Use Breathe Right® Nasal Strips
Clean Your Face Since adhesive doesn’t stick well to oily, wet or moisturized skin, it’s important to wash and thoroughly dry your nose before applying a nasal strip.
Position Nasal Strip Remove the protective liner to expose the adhesive, then position the nasal strip on your nose. Position is critical — the strip should be centered along the width of your nose with the tabs on the flaring part of the nostril. The tabs shouldn’t cover the flaring part of the nostril entirely, but rather should sit just above.
Apply to Nose Gently rub the strip to secure it onto your nose. Nasal strips come in different sizes to fit different nose types, so you should determine which size is best for you. Also, it’s important to always refer to the packaging leaflet before use.
How to Remove Breathe Right® Nasal Strips
To remove, remember to go slowly. Wash your face or shower with warm water to start to loosen the strip from its ends. With one hand on each tab, lift the strip off your nose. If you have sensitive or dry skin, purchase nose strips that are best suited for your skin type.

[VO] Nighttime nasal congestion doesn’t necessarily come from mucus that builds up in your nose. However, that can be a contributing factor.
[VO] Congestion can occur when your nasal passages become inflamed, allowing less air to pass through.
[VO] Breathe Right nasal strips use a combination of gentle, but strong adhesive and an unique reflex action to actually physically pull your nasal passage open.
[VO] Breathe Right opens your nose so you’re able to breathe better. Because Breathe Right nasal strips are drug-free, there are no medicinal side effects and no waiting for anything to kick in. You’ll get instant relief, so you can sleep better through the night.
[Text] SEE HOW TO APPLY THEM
[VO] Applying Breathe Right nasal strips is quite simple. First, wash and thoroughly dry your nose. Moisture or makeup on your nose can limit how well the strip sticks. Next, peel the strip away from the liner, place it on your nose, and press down to ensure it’s on securely. Pressing and rubbing for five to 10 seconds is usually enough.
[VO] Placing it properly on your nose is important in ensuring you achieve the correct results. As you can see, the strip should sit on the low, middle area of your nose. Overnight, it’s normal to see some slight lifting on the edges of the strip.

[VO] To remove your Breathe Right nasal strip, you may want to wash your face with soap and warm water. Moisture will naturally loosen the strip, making it easier to peel. This can be done most effectively at the sink or in the shower, where the steam will also help loosen the strip.
[VO] First, loosen the edges of the strip. Remember, it’s normal to see lifting at the edges. Then, gently and slowly, lift the strip from both sides. Never remove your strip quickly. Slow removal will help you avoid irritating your skin.
